GOLF-GAME OF HONOUR

The game of Golf is unique in the sense that there are no referees to call a foul and no officials to slap a penalty. In Golf, the Rulebook is sacrosanct. The onus lies on the players to police themselves and to penalize themselves as per the rules. Golf is a Game of Honour and from centuries golfers have observed the traditions with pride, commitment and respect. On this very Foundation of trust and honesty, Golf has gained the reputation of a truly Gentleman's game.

All time Greats like Bobby Jones and Greg Norman have sacrificed huge tournament victories by penalizing themselves when no cameras or officials were watching. Bobby Jones famously said, “When you cheat in golf, the only person you are cheating is yourself “. In all other sports, some people consider it a skill to cheat without getting caught since referees are watching the game. But not in golf, where you decide what scores you are going to submit in the end. Indeed the temptation to cheat and win gets very high in golf as the chances of getting caught are very slim.

A famous businessman never closed a business deal without playing a round of golf with the other person because he believed that it exposed the character of the person more than any other investigation. So we, as a golfing community, are torchbearers of highest moral standards of sportsmanship and integrity.

WALKING DOWN MEMORY LANE

GOLF IN JAIPUR : THOSE WERE THE DAYS

Maharani Gayatri Devi, the former Queen Mother of the erstwhile Princely State of Jaipur was known for her beauty and elegance but few would know her love for Golf. It was in 1943, while holidaying at Gulmarg in Kashmir that she first had a feel of this awesome game of Golf. She got so fascinated by the sport that the first thing she did after reaching back home was that she insisted the Maharaja to lay out a Golf Course for her . His Highness Maharaja Man Singh II of Jaipur was an epitome of chivalry and a debonair horseman who enjoyed an apex handicap of 10 in Polo.

Incidentally, higher the handicap better the Polo player you are, unlike Golf. He obliged his beloved and in the backyards of Lily Pool (Maharani's abode), part of Rambagh Palace Estate, came up a Nine-Hole Brown Course designed by an Englishman specially hired for the job. He also coached and taught Golf.

RISING STARS OF RGC

Golf as a game has inspired a lot of young people towards playing and being trained at the highest level. Two young stars of the Rambagh Golf Club are indeed making waves. Prakhar Asawa, a young talent of RGC is a  12 year old with tremendous potential. He has been playing golf since the age of 5. He has played various tournaments not only at the national level but also at the international level. The youngster is the son of Mr. Amit Asawa, a two time Ranji trophy winning coach of the Rajasthan national Cricket team with 11c, the highest coaching pinnacle.

At USHA IGU Karnataka and Delhi National Junior Golf championship held in Bengaluru and New Delhi he stood 1st & 3rd respectively in the 'B' Category with gross scores of 272 and 305 in 4 rounds of 18 holes stroke play. At the Rajasthan National Junior Golf Championship hosted at the Rambagh Golf Club, Jaipur he won the 1st position in 'B' Category with a gross score of 288 in 4 rounds of 18 holes stroke play.
